While the cyber security and identity theft, either online and over the phone, has gained more and more attention in recent years, protecting your personal information on paper will always be a vital measure taken to avoid identity theft. Keeping your personal information safe in your home or thoroughly disposed of is the only way to be sure that criminals aren’t swiping your personal documents.
According to Experian, over 7,000 individuals reported identity theft and almost 52,000 submitted fraud complaints in Virginia in 2017. Some of those people could be your friends, family, or neighbors. Some of those people are our friends, family, and neighbors, too. That’s why, as a financial institution that works tirelessly to educate and protect the accounts of the individuals and businesses that we serve, we are hosting our Annual Community Shred Day on Saturday, June 23 at our Colonial Avenue Branch from 9 AM to 12 PM.
We’re inviting our friends, family, and neighbors to come join us for a day of totally free file shredding. There will be some refreshments available, family fun, and even Homer will make an appearance! While there are some important documents that you should keep in a secured location, we invite you to bring up to 6 boxes stuffed with personal papers. Not sure what to keep and what to bring? We provided a comprehensive list for attendees last year!
Be sure to RSVP to our event page on Facebook! We’ll see you there!
