That’s why we make sure we’re providing our employees with the right amount of flexibility and incentive to stay happy and healthy. After all, when we’re smiling and feeling good, it means we’re assisting our customers at our best!
HomeTown’s Healthier You Challenge
In January of 2018, we launched our “Healthier You” challenge to inspire and assist our employees in meeting their personal health goals for the year. We want to reward employees who are taking steps to improve their health so we set up a point system with helpful tips to get active and stay healthy.
“Since so much of our time is spent at the work, we wanted to integrate wellness into our day to day and make it easier for people to adopt healthy habits into their busy lives,” says Susan Still, President and CEO.
Our employees simply have to fill our their activity log and at the end of each week, if they’ve earned at least 70 points, they can submit them to our Wellness Coordinators. Each week that they meet their points goals and submit their activity, they’ll get an entry into prize drawings. What are the prizes you ask? Fun fitness related items ranging from wellness gift cards to sporting good stores or spas, to a new Fit Bit, to gym membership reimbursements!
We wanted to make getting active easy for our employees so we split some activities into two simple lists. One list earns 1 point per day and suggests they make small changes in their lives to go just a little bit further in being active. For example, taking the stairs instead of elevators, eating only fruits and veggies for snacks, giving up soda for the day, and getting 8 hours of sleep. The other list is a bit more challenging and earns 2 points a day for doing things like eating 5 servings of fruits and veggies per day, attending a fitness class or working out for thirty minutes or more, or drinking half of your weight in ounces of water!
Just doing small things each day to work towards wellness can make a major difference! We can’t wait to see how our employees progress.
Sometimes, it takes a little nudging from your friends to get you up and moving. There’s power in numbers, so we’ve coordinated group yoga classes and a walking club for our employees to work together towards their goals. One of our employees, Joli Wood, will lead a Wednesday night yoga class for all levels at our Operations Center, allowing those who have never even tried yoga to have the opportunity to explore the benefits. Our Walking Club at our Main Office has also kicked off to make sure everyone is taking some time during their day to walk during lunch or after work. We’re hoping all of our other locations will get inspired to create one as well!
Our ultimate goal is to provide our employees with a support system to continue to better their lives because, at the end of the day, our employees are what makes us HomeTown! They’re here to remind you each and every day that “It’s Good to Be Home”.
